5 States Salvage Pool, LLC

The 5 States Salvage Pool website features salvage vehicles available for monthly auction. Their site features our auction web application that allows visitors to bid for items by proxy before the monthly live auction. The auction web application features a bidder registration system that requires bidders to register before placing bids. This allows 5 States to collect buyer registration fees for the privilege of bidding on auction items, as well as providing them a marketing contact list. A control panel allows 5 States staff to easily manage auction content. Multiple photos can be uploaded to the web server. The control panel also allows staff to monitor bids, notify bid winners and suspend bid privileges.

Our Role

DakotaQ Internet Services provides the following services for the 5 States website:

  • Provide domain registration and hosting services
  • SQL 2005 database to store auction and bidder information
  • Installation and testing of our auction web application
  • Web programming of auction calendar page, current auction listings page and online buyer registration form
  • Customer support so our product will continue to meet their needs

Auction items display up to five photos of the item.

Bidders can automatically raise their bid to a preset maximum.

5 States staff can review current bids on auction items.

Reports of winning bids can be generated after each auction.

Their Problem

5 States Salvage Pool, LLC holds monthly live auctions to sell salvage vehicles to dealers and non-dealers in South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska. They wanted a simple, affordable way for customers to participate in these auctions without driving long distance to the auction location.

They also needed an easy way to update their site content with information and photos of each new auction item without having to learn the nuts and bolts of web programming or hiring a staff member to do this for them. They also wanted bidders to register before being able to bid on items.

Our Solution

Our auction web application allows visitors to register and bid on auction items before the live auction takes place. Visitors can:

  • register to bid on items
  • browse the list of auction items, including multiple photos
  • place a bid
  • view a calendar of upcoming live auctions
Our auction web application allows 5 States staff to:
  • add new auction dates
  • add/edit new auction items
  • upload photos
  • track bids
  • modify registered bidders (and if necessary suspend their privileges)
  • notify bid winners
